It was with great excitement I purchased a brand new beautiful red 2016 Honda Civic in January of 2017. However, the excitement didn't last long. I started experiencing problems with my AC at just 15,000 miles. The AC wouldn't cool at all, I would turn it on and keep it on for a while thinking, maybe it just needs a little time to cool. But it never got cool even after keeping it on for almost an hour's journey, and this went on for several days, and weeks.
Needless to say, I was scared, because I didn't have the money to repair the AC, and I knew it could cost several hundred dollars. Eventually, I decided to call the dealership, and they said it was covered under the warranty. That was quite a relief, for my wife and I, especially considering our toddler also had to suffer in the hot car on our travels.
So we took it to the dealer. Of course, you have to wait for hours to get these things fixed, even if you show up with an appointment. So the mechanic came back and told me, this problem is common with Honda civics, and it will be repaired free of charge, so I was happy. They fixed the AC, it worked, and I took it home. I didn't have to worry anymore about traveling with my little toddler in a hot car in the hot and humid Florida weather.
Several months went by, and sure enough, the AC broke again at 30,000 miles. The same problem, the AC would not cool. I was once again concerned about the cost of repairing it, but I realized that I'm covered up to 36,000 miles. So I took it to the dealership again, and I told them about my plight, and this time, to my shock, the service advisor told me, "it's gonna happen again". He advised me, it could break down again after another 15,000 miles, as it was a common problem with these cars, and "they just wanna make money off of you, that's why there's no permanent fix for this problem". Of course I was worried, and still am, but they got it fixed, and it hasn't reached that 15,000 mark yet, not even close to it, but I'm still quite nervous about it breaking down again.
Needless to say, Honda didn't make a very good impression on me, and am quite hesitant to purchase another Honda again. Have any of you experienced similar problems with your 2016 Honda Civic? Please comment below!
